Innocent and Certain
At times he smiles
as though he never has
pure, innocent, and uncertain
he looks at her with intention
his eyes, against his will
tell her everything
his lips on her forehead
his arms hanging on for dear life
his energy can't be denied
nor is it wasted
But his heart
well, that remains with him
like an honorable doorkeeper, he guards it
she could be his ward
if he wills it
She'll wait for it
When his walls are finally down
She'll lightly pass through the rubble
of failed attempts, broken promises, and the bleeding hearts
of those who just weren't enough
Stepping softly
she'll look at him with intention
pure, innocent, and certain
